The Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi is closely associated with the Ashta Mathas (eight monasteries) established by the great Dvaita philosopher Madhvacharya. Among these, the Krishnapur Matha—sometimes referred to as the Krishnapur Mutt—is a prominent Madhwa Vaishnava monastery. It plays a vital role in preserving and propagating Madhvacharya’s teachings and traditions.

The Krishnapur Matha, like the other seven mathas, takes turns in managing the daily worship and administration of the sacred Sri Krishna Temple at Udupi. Each matha has a rich history of spiritual contributions and service to the community.

At present, the Krishnapur Matha is led by Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji, who continues the legacy of devotion, scholarship, and service established by Madhvacharya centuries ago.

Kapu is a serene beach village located along the picturesque coastline of Karnataka. Known for its untouched natural beauty, Kapu’s long stretches of golden sand provide breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea. The tropical climate and lush greenery surrounding the shore make it a popular destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and scenic charm.

One of the most iconic landmarks of Kapu Beach is its century-old, 130-foot lighthouse, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the vast sea and surrounding landscapes. Visitors can also explore the cultural richness of the region through the revered temples of Goddess Mariamma and the historic Jain Basadis.

Blending natural beauty, spirituality, and history, Kapu Beach is a perfect spot for those looking to experience the tranquil yet vibrant essence of coastal Karnataka.

Maravanthe Beach is one of the most enchanting coastal destinations in Karnataka, often described as a slice of paradise. With the stunning Kodachadri Hills standing tall in the backdrop, the serene Souparnika River flowing gracefully on one side, and the vast Arabian Sea stretching endlessly on the other, the landscape here feels like a painting brought to life.

What makes Maravanthe truly unique is its rare geographical setting—along the NH66 highway, you can witness the sea on one side and the river on the other, a sight said to be the only one of its kind in India. The long stretches of untouched white sand, the gentle sea breeze, and the captivating views make it a favorite spot for travelers, photographers, and nature lovers.

Often compared to a fairyland, Maravanthe offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and tranquility, making it an unforgettable stop on any journey through Udupi and Coastal Karnataka.

St. Mary’s Islands, also called Thonsepar, are a cluster of four small yet scenic islands located in the Arabian Sea, just off the coast of Malpe in Udupi, Karnataka. These islands are famous for their rare geological formations of columnar rhyolitic lava, believed to have been formed millions of years ago when Madagascar separated from the Indian subcontinent.

The unique hexagonal basalt rocks, coupled with pristine white sand beaches and clear blue waters, make St. Mary’s Islands a must-visit destination for nature lovers, geologists, and photography enthusiasts. The islands are uninhabited and can only be reached by ferry from Malpe Beach, adding to their charm as a quiet getaway.

Beyond their scientific significance, St. Mary’s Islands also offer breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea, making them a popular spot for picnics, day trips, and sunset watching. Visitors are often captivated by the island’s raw, untouched beauty and its striking blend of history, geology, and natural serenity.

Located just 11 km from Udupi and 3.5 km from Katpadi, Mattu Beach is a hidden coastal gem that captivates visitors with its unspoiled beauty and peaceful surroundings. Known for its golden sandy stretches and tranquil atmosphere, this beach offers an ideal escape from the bustle of city life.

What makes Mattu Beach truly special is its recognition with a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag, highlighting not only the purity of its natural landscape but also its cultural and ecological importance. The beach is less commercialized compared to other tourist spots, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and those seeking quiet moments by the sea.

Whether it’s the breathtaking sunsets, the soothing sound of the waves, or the unique cultural heritage tied to the region, Mattu Beach stands as a serene destination that reflects the timeless charm of coastal Karnataka.
